Safety

Safety is integrated into how United Painting plans and performs its work. Painting, drywall, surface-preparation, and coating projects can involve elevated work, specialized access, active facilities, coating materials, and coordination with other trades. United approaches each project according to applicable site requirements, work conditions, and project-specific safety procedures.

01Access

Elevated work and access

Much painting and coating work happens at height: on ceilings and exterior walls, on structural steel and on the outside of tanks. That work is carried out from scaffolding, boom lifts, scissor lifts and other aerial equipment.

  • Scaffolding
  • Boom lifts
  • Scissor lifts and other aerial equipment
  • Confined-space work with trained personnel and procedures

02Confined spaces

Confined-space work

Some coating work takes place in confined spaces, such as the interiors of tanks and vessels. That work is performed by trained personnel following confined-space procedures.

03Site requirements

Working within facility and project requirements

Requirements differ from site to site. An operating facility may restrict access and set working areas around production; a controlled site may require security procedures and project documentation; an occupied building has employees and customers present. Painting and coating work is planned within those requirements and the project's own safety procedures.

04Existing coatings

Existing lead-containing coatings

United Painting works on projects involving existing lead-containing coatings within required containment, in accordance with project requirements, and using applicable project safety and control procedures.

  • Work within containment systems when required
